Effective Minute Taking (Introductory Course)

This course is designed to enable existing and prospective minute-takers to develop the skills and confidence required to take and produce accurate and clearly written minutes.
 
The course will look at the role and purpose of minutes and minute taking, provide participants with an understanding of how minutes should be taken, develop listening skills and techniques and provide an understanding of minute taking etiquette, protocols and practical applications.
 
 
Aim:
 
To clarify the role and purpose of minutes and minute taking and to provide the skills required to do this effectively.
 
 
Objectives:
 
  • To be able to prepare effectively for a meeting when responsible for taking minutes
  • To recognise, list and avoid common barriers to effective listening
  • List the key good listening skills required to take minutes effectively
  • Explain different methods of minute taking
  • To accurately record minutes
  • Explain how to select and summarise the key/major points from a discussion
  • Produce a clear and accurate set of minutes
